According to the dictionary, CAOBA means „precious tropical mahagony“. It’s been planted, in this special case, by bandleader Anton Mühlhofer, who, even before the founding of this group, recorded two CDs with Cuban colleagues in Santiago de Cuba („Mi Mundo“ and „Sabor No Tiene Color“).

The Latin-Jazz works, composed by members of CAOBA, Anton Mühlhofer (drums/perc./vocal), Philippine Duchateau (piano), Markus Zahrl (saxes) and Stephan Först (bass), have been influenced not only by musical and rhythmical elements from Cuba and Brazil, but also from Bali, Morocco and Vienna.

The title composition „CAOBA“ is a percussive journey through the world of these tropical forests.
